The friendship I have with about 60 women from around the world - are some of the strongest bonds I have ever had in my life. And oddly enough, I have never met any of these women. We were all brought together on a website that we joined on our own, upon learning we were pregnant with our babies due in February. This site in particular puts you in groups based on your due date. We spent nine long months chatting together about the ups and downs of pregnancy. Some of us first time moms, some mothers of four. We are working moms, stay at home moms, and everything in between. We come from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and upbringings - but we continued to stay strong through our one common bond: our babies. We were online all hours of the day; there were girls located in Australia, Ireland, England, Canada, and the United States - covering pretty much every time zone.
Once our babies were born, we couldn't fathom a total disconnect from the women we started to refer to as "sisters". And so, another conception and birth had occured: SIBs, or Sisters In Birth. We have all stayed in constant contact since the births of our babies. Sharing the accomplishments and proud moments as mommies, and the heartbreaking moments of the loss of one of our "SIBlets". We were there, no, we ARE there for each other - ALWAYS.
One by one, SIBs have had the opportunity to meet each other, based on travel plans coinciding with hometowns. It was on this day is March (nearly one month after our babies' first birthdays) that Lily and I had our first meeting with a SIB, Christina, and her SIBlet, Rocco. We met them for breakfast while they were stopping over in Orlando before heading off to a Disney Cruise. What a special moment this was. While we were meeting for the first time, it most certainly felt like two old friends reconnecting after time apart.
Life knows no love, like that of a friend.
